Kyras Soft-Foot

Kyras Soft-Foot earned his name and reputation through a life of violence. A half-elf, he never met his father and was abandoned in the streets of Absalom by his mother at the age of 6. For years he eked a living scrounging and begging, often resorting to petty theft and - eventually - mugging other urchins for their meager food. Around the age of 8 he was caught stealing and branded on the side of his face as a thief. As a teen he joined a street gang connected to the Absalom underground, where he soon rose to prominence among a cutthroat crew of half-orcs, dwarves and other outcasts in a human-dominated society. Recognizing his reflexes, strength, and lack of empathy, his bosses molded him to become their enforcer. For the next 15 years he performed these duties efficiently and with a minimum of compunction, sowing terror with his adept use of traps, alchemy, stealth, and sudden, brutal violence. Secretly, however, he chaffed at being treated as a slave, and his hatred for the Bloody Barbers and their boss, Grim Torn-Hand, grew steadily. More than yearning to leave behind the filth of the city's sewers and alleys or feeling disgust with his work, Kyras is motivated by the rekindled sense of abandonment he feels when society's "betters" throw scared, disgusted, or disdainful looks his way every time they see his branded face or scars, or hear his uncouth gutter-tongue.

As Cheliax prepared for war, the Absalom underground curried favor by ferrying illegal weapons in support. Assigned as an escort to one such barge of embargoed weapons, his ship was attacked in the night by Andoran privateers. Seizing his chance, Kyras backstabbed the other escort and surrendered the vessel. After a few weeks privateering with his new friends, the ship returned to the Andoran shore to find war with Cheliax had become more-or-less open. As a land force was organized, Kyras was sent ahead in secret as part of an infiltration force to subvert Piren's Bluff from the inside...

[Rule] Fixed Hit Point Progression

Characters receive 3/4 of their Hit Dice at each level:

d4 (75% = 3): 4, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3...
d6 (75% = 4.5): 6, 4, 5, 4, 5, 4...
d8 (75% = 6): 8, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6...
d10 (75% = 7.5): 10, 7, 8, 7, 8, 7...
d12 (75% = 9) : 12, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9...

When multi-classing, the d4, d8, and d12 Hit Dice provide the same amount (3, 6, and 8 HP respectively).  When taking classes that use the alternating Hit Die, when you take a level in these just keep alternating after first level: (low), (high), (low), (high), etc. Doesn't matter if you are taking d6 or d10, the averages will work out the same no matter the order.  Just ignore any d4, d8, or d12 Hit Die classes you have when figuring this.

Cyrene's Story

Cyrene is young but she has a purpose...

Cyrene's story, my story, started when a travelling merchant fell in love with a Nereid deep in the Arthfell Forest of Andoran. Compelled to have her for himself, he returned with his wealth and built a villa around the patch of forest with her pool. I am her daughter.
I was raised on the edges of his household as a bastard, but if he was my father, my mother would never say. She kept this secret to protect me. He was a jealous man and although he hated her love for me he couldn't kill me if I might be his only heir. So, he raised me to understand peoples and the methods of trade while my mother raised me in the knowledge of my fey heritage and nature.
But I was not destined for a carefree childhood. I had to steal from the kitchen just to have enough to eat, and when I couldn't dodge his blows I learned to escape from the small, dark spaces he locked me in. I don't think he ever realized I had my mother's vision and healed quickly in her wet embrace. I stayed with my mother until I was 14, but finally could take the abuse no longer. As I said good-bye to her, I promised I would return to free her from his tyranny.
I escaped to a temple of Gozreh, who understands my divided nature. I have become his/her trident. Ultimately, I will become strong enough, rich enough in money and secrets to ruin the merchant and take his business and villa. It has been several years, and I am getting stronger; everything I do is in pursuit of my goal of rescuing my mother, and I will kill the man who claims me as his blood if I get the chance!
